I enjoy poetry. I enjoy it in its many different forms. Poetry with rules and standards, Poetry with boundaries, Spoken Word, Written Prose, I simply enjoy its many forms. I enjoy the way it can bring you up, set you down, place images in your head and make you question and think. I simply enjoy poetry. Poetry set to music, poetry in silence. I enjoy the freedom of expression and how through time what we consider poetry has changed, evolved, gone back and forth, between what is correct and incorrect, but it is simply our way to express what is on our minds. I enjoy creating it and hearing others creations. The flow of words can be soothing and flowing, blunt and jarring, structured or erratic; it has so many different forms. Much the same way that people are, in our many different forms, our different ideas, different ways of life, different ways to express ourselves, we are still human. We see differences so much we sometimes forget to see our similarities. We are all poetry.

To Tweet or not to Tweet December 17, 2009

The only reason I even have a Twitter is because it was required. Therefore, the people I follow are the people from my class. Except my one good friend from home. Other than that, I am not really interested in following strangers. When I go into the job market, I may use Twitter to communicate with co-workers, if other venues of communication are not available. Direct communication would be my number one preference, followed by a phone call, blackberry message, text, email live video chat and Facebook. There are so many other ways to communicate, Twitter would not be my number one preference. I would only use Twitter for its networking capabilities. I personally do not care about the lives of strangers. I have enough to think about in my own life and would rather focus on maintaining and enhancing the relationships of my close friends. Also, being close friends I do not need to use Twitter to find out how they are doing or what they are doing. I have venues available that I can directly communicate with them. I am just not that big a fan of it for the time because it has no practical utility at this moment.

I’m tired of writing. My brain hurts. I don’t want to put any more words on paper. I don’t even enjoy the physical act of writing like I usually do. The funny thing is I go through this process every semester. I start out the semester, full of fire and creativity. I’m ready to pour out genius onto paper. The last two semesters have been busy ones outside of school so writing has been a chance for release. A way to pour my stress onto paper and do something useful with it.

The problem comes when I get towards the end of the semester. I’ve been writing papers and stories and poems and one liners for months and the words have started to get forced. My creativity is growing really thin. The only thing I can seem to do is journal. If I am writing about things that are happening in my life, I can write. But if I have to make something up, or even regurgitate information I can’t seem to do it.

One of these days maybe I’ll figure out how to pace my writing so I enjoy it for extended periods of time. Maybe it will be better when I’m not required to write things that I don’t want to write.  I don’t know. Either way, right now, I’m tired of writing. I want to go take some pictures.

Have No Fear: Hulu Is Here! December 8, 2009

I’ll admit it, I’m not a big TV person.  Personally, I find most shows extremely dumb and the rest I just do not have time for.  However, there are a few shows that I cannot live without, and one of them is Glee.  Glee currently comes on Fox at 9:00pm every Wednesday.  However if you are me, or probably any other college student, it is hard to set aside that hour to sit down for entertainment.  During the week, when I do not have work or class I have to study or write a paper.  I feel like my fingers are constantly straining to push down the letter keys on my laptop, and my eyes are constantly glued to my computer screen.  True, some weeks I do try and multitask by typing a paper and watching Glee at the same time.  However, I have come to the realization that this method does not work.  I get going with an idea and lose track of the show, then I look up and am completely lost by the plot.  I’m guessing this is a similar problem for most college students, and that is why I am going to introduce you to your TV life saver.  Meet www.hulu.com

Hulu lets you go to the website whenever you find the time to catch up or rewatch your favorite shows from NBC or Fox.  It has whole seasons and behind the scene interviews.  I constantly catch up on Glee using Hulu.  Most college students, myself included, can only find time for TV on weekends.  This is why Hulu is so perfect.

Can’t sleep at night? Watch Hulu

Need a study break? Watch Hulu

You can pause or jump ahead in the shows too.  Plus, there is a limited amount of commercials so you can watch shows without all that extra waste of time.

Hulu has helped me catch up on a lot of missed shows, and I have also included Hulu clips in some of my presentations at school.  If you have never tried Hulu you are missing out.  Go to the website today and search in the search box for your favorite show, you might get lucky and see some episodes you missed.

Do You See What I See December 7, 2009

It amazes me how two people can look at the same thing and have the same thought in their head. They may not have the same perspective or see the same function. For instance, my friends see a sweatshirt. I see a device that can be turned into a container, with careful folding up into the hood. When I showed my friends they claimed my container was the most genius and ridiculous thing they had seen.

I remember playing with LEGO’s as a kid. The directions gave you miniature worlds to control. I was never a fan of putting them together myself, I would rather have them be built for me and play with them upon completion. However, there are more to LEGO’s than the standard plans. As seen by the creations of Nathan Sawaya. He looks outside of the box and uses LEGO’s as literal building blocks to create art.

Getting high to escape reality

Getting drunk to forget what’s surrounding me

But what is burning down inside can only be

Put out by me controlling me

Not a foreign substance

Or some sex

To fool my senses that the passing time is one hundred percent

And ordeal free

I still hold the key to my sanity

But I am simply losing control

Digging deeper and deeper into this hole

Where the Dark Prince will bury me

And seize the deed of my soul

How will I break free of that hold

I need to put the fire out before I’ve completely lost all goals

Mama always said that God knows best

Put my hand in Jesus and he’ll take care of the rest

But what’s their to take care of

 I’ve got nothing left

Just buying my time till I breathe my last breath

It’s a dark view

But damn it what am I to do

The door is wide open and the options are running out

I feel like im falling in and I’m bugging ‘bout

What’s my next move

As I begin to shout

Where’s the exit

And I begin to doubt

My very Existence

As the pills flow through my veins

When the gun raises to my brain

BANG

For the utter excitement of getting to know a new friend

For the comfort of being with someone who understands you

For the ease of being oneself

For the laughter

For the Joy

For the PASSION

For the PAIN

For the fights

For the confusion

For the endless agony of knowing it is over

For the memories shared together

For the only thing left is time to heal

For the mystery of loving again

Love, oh Love why we fall in love, because when it is right, when it is true, when it is real

 It is heaven on earth,

We fall in love to be with angels

We fall in love to be complete

We fall in Love, to Love and be Loved

If you have blogged and written about your emotions, you may very well be an author of We Feel Fine. The interactive website databases our human emotions and displays them for the world to see. It allows us to virtually pass by our fellows and see the emotions they feel. It is interesting to see the how those around us feel. The site changes the way we interact with websites as it displays information in a nonlinear fashion. You have to bounce around, gaining clips of information. However, for me, the content is not that important. Emotions are abstract and ever changing, it again brings up my, so what, factor. Why do I or should I care what someone across the world is feeling? Why should they care how I feel? The anonymity of authors takes out a direct connection to others however. The site inspires me to think though. The site is a minor judgment of how the world is feeling for the day. It allows us to see that although we may be across the world, we may feel the same, in a world where we thrive on pointing out differences; this site allows us to see how we are connected. Our emotions are apart of our humanity. We may not always feel fine, but we all do feel. As time changes, perhaps we may eventually see that it is more than feelings that unite us, maybe we may feel we are all equals, we are all human.

Response to How Twitter Will Change the Way We Live

Twitter provides aspects to social networking that I believe are beneficial and useless. To begin with the negative, who ate what and did when where, if I do not know you personally in a physical realm I do not care and perhaps even if I did I still would not. Those type of responses are so superficial it does not say who you are it does not tell your true ideals or your concept of self. These types of responses just remind me of the daily magazines, which show which celebrity was where, kissing whom, losing weight, I say so what. These never gained my interest. Now we have a venue for the world to stalk us in the same fashion as the paparazzi. If I needed the attention or had a lack of social network outside the web, perhaps I would value them more. If I do not know you in the physical realm the personal aspect of Twitter, I find no need for. Knowing the personal life of what a stranger is doing adds no benefit to my life.
However, as the cliché goes two minds are better than one, being connected to a vast number of minds in a single area is an ideal place to trade ideas and ask questions. The network of Twitter used for the free flow of ideas could be a powerful tool to bring together untapped brainpower. Twitter may be used for networking together and aiming to solve common goals. Twitter would allow us to gain insight from across the world.
I believe there is great potential value in Twitter for problem solving.

Wedding Photography December 5, 2009

I have been thinking about something interesting the last day or two. Why is it that people have someone to take pictures of their wedding, but they don’t have someone to write about their wedding? Brides literally spend thousands of dollars for a photographer to capture their big day, but there is no one writing down what the preacher says. No one is recording the words in their vows or the toasts given by friends. I wonder why?

This has been on my mind because today I am shooting my first wedding alone. I’ve done a few as the photographers assitant. But today I’m on my own. I have been thinking through all the shots I need to take, trying to make sure I capture every important moment. The family pictures are the ones that have me most concerned because if I miss a family member then I’m in trouble. The family pictures are the equivalent of the guest book, only more copies of them get made. I have to get all of it, or part of the day will be missing.

Wedding photography is an interesting phenomenon. A good photographer will capture all the emotion of the day in a picture. But there is still something missing in the recording. Photographs will catch the look in the groom’s eye when he first sees his bride, but they won’t record what he says to her at any point during the day. The picture will catch the emotion of the father as he dances one more time with his baby girl, but not what makes everyone laugh during the best mans speech.

I love what photography does. I love all the things that can be caught in a picture. I love the feeling of taking a moment in time and freezing it, preserving it for the future. But I also wish I had someone who would come to my wedding and write down some of the things that people say. I want a wedding journalist. Someone who will do what a photographer does, freezing moments and preserving them, but with words. Maybe someday I’ll figure out how to do that for someone else.
